                                     Leitbild

Über uns:

 Mitglieder des Freundeskreises Süntel-Buchen (FS-B) sind fasziniert von der einzigartig-bizarren Wuchsform der Süntelbuche
    (Fagus sylvatica var. suentelensis),  einer seltenen Mutation der Rotbuche (Fagus sylvatica).
 Sie sind überzeugt von der Notwendigkeit diese bedrohte Rarität in der Deister-Süntel-Region zu schützen und durch Pflegemaßnahmen
    ihren Fortbestand zu sichern.
 Der  FS-B  ist der Ortsgruppe Bad Münder des Heimatbundes Niedersachsen e.V. angegliedert.
 Ein rund 1,1 ha großes Arboretum, das von dem FS-B unterhalten wird,  liegt in der Trägerschaft dieser Ortsgruppe.
 Es befindet sich am Südhang des Deisters oberhalb der Ortschaft Nettelrede in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft zur Kernstadt Bad Münder am Deister.   

Leitlinien unserer Arbeit:

 Arterhaltung
    - Dokumentation noch existenter, regionaler Süntel-Buchen-Linien und Einbringung ins Arboretum
    - Aufbau eines möglichst vollständigen Genarchivs regionaler Süntel-Buchen
    - Rettung absterbender Exemplare durch vegetative Vermehrungsmethoden
    - generative Vermehrung „reiner“ Süntel-Buchen in möglichst großer Diversität
    - Pflege und langfristige Entwicklung des derzeitigen Bestandes
    - Unterhalt eines Pflanzgartens für die dokumentierte  Nachzucht  alter Mutterbäume

 Wissenschaftliche Betreuung
   - Kontakte zu Forschungseinrichtungen und Experten (Universitäten, Forstbetriebe) pflegen, koordinieren und ausbauen
   - tradiertes Wissen explorieren, sichern und nutzbar machen (Privatarchive)
   - das Arboretum kontinuierlich und fachgerecht weiterentwickeln*)
   - Erfahrungen und Arbeitsergebnisse über Publikationen bekannt machen und mit Interessengruppen austauschen

 Bewusstseins- und Umweltbildung
   - die Süntel-Buche als prominentes, attraktives Beispiel für regional seltene Pflanzen bewusst machen
   - am Beispiel der Süntel-Buche ein biologisches und ökologisches Verständnis für Bäume und Sträucher vermitteln, sowie Bewusstsein
     für Artenschutz und Arterhaltung entwickeln
   - die Süntel-Buche als Beispiel für nicht-profitorientierte, utilitaristische Bewahrung von Biodiversität herausstellen
   - Jugendliche und Erwachsene an praktische Arterhaltungsmaßnahmen und Arboretumspflege heranführen und einbeziehen
     (Naturschutz- und Jugendverbände)


   - das Arboretum langfristig als attraktive, öffentliche Informations- und Schaufläche gestalten
   - regelmäßige Veranstaltungen im Arboretum („Offenes Arboretum“, Führungen, Integration regionalen Brauchtums) organisieren
   - aktive Medienarbeit (regelmäßige Infos, Zustands- und Tätigkeitsberichte) betreiben

 Heimatkunde und Identitätsstiftung
   - Süntel-Buchen als - dendrologische Besonderheit und regionales „Markenzeichen“ herausstellen
   - als positives Beispiel für Bewusstseins- und Wertewandel (vom Teufelsholz zur geliebten Kuriosität) bekannt machen
   - mit der Heimatgeschichte verknüpfen(v. Münchhausen u.v.a.)


Guidelines of the CS-B

About us:

Members of the CS-B are fascinated by the unique bizarre growth structure of the “Süntel-Beech” (Fagus sylvatica f. suentelensis), a rare mutation of the copper beech (Fagus sylvatica).
They are convinced by the necessity to protect this threatened rarity in the Deister-Süntel-Region and to secure its continuity with the help of protective measures .
The CS-B is affiliated to the Location Group Bad Münder from the Regional Trust of Lower Saxony (Heimatbund Niedersachsen e. V.).
The Location Group is the funding body of the reservation (arboretum) which is approx. 1.1 hectares in size.
It is situated on the south hillside of the Deister above the village Nettelrede in close proximity to the town of Bad Münder.

Guidelines of our activities:

    Species conservation
Documentation of still existing, regional Süntel-Beech-Family lines and integration into the reservation.
Establishment of a preferably complete gene archive of regional Süntel-Beeches.
Rescue individual specimens threatened by extinction with the help of vegetative reproduction methods.
Generative reproduction of the “pure” Süntel-Beeches in a preferably high diversity.
Maintenance and long-term development of the current established population.
Keeping of a cultivation nursery with seedlings for the documented  propagation of existing trees.

    Scientific care and supervision
Maintain, coordinate and enhance contacts with research institutes and experts (universities, forest holdings).
Explore traditional knowledge, document it and make it accessible (private archive).
Further develop  the reservation continuously and professionally. *
Share experience and results via publications and exchange with interest group.

    Generation of public and environmental awareness
Raise awareness about the Süntel-Beech as an attractive, prominent example of regional rare fauna.
Generate a biological and ecological understanding for trees and bushes using the Süntel-Beech as an example, as well as developing awareness for species preservation and conservation.
Present the Süntel-Beech as an example for non-profit, non- utilitarian conservation of bio diversity.
Introduce and integrate young and old to practical species conservation measures and reservation maintenance (nature conservation organisation and youth organisation).
Design the reservation as an attractive, public information and demonstration area in the longer term.
Organising regularly events in the reservation (“open reservation”, tours, integration of regional traditions).
Pursue active media relations (regular information, status and activity reports)

    Local history and identity building
Present Süntel-Beeches as a dendrological particularity and regional “brand mark”.
Make the Süntel-Beeches known as a positive example for an awareness and value shift (from “evil wood” to a beloved curiosity).
Connect the Süntel-Beeches with the local history (from Münchhausen and others)   

*The CS-B is currently trying to acquire a 1.8 hectare area where the descendents of roughly 25 different  
         trees can grow as in a forest.
